The Rogue Weaver
I love symmetry.
There's something about a balanced design that I find immensely satisfying. It isn't always easy to achieve, and sometimes it takes a little experimenting to get everything lined up just the way I want it. But for me, it's always worth the effort.
One of my favourite details in this scarf is the way the pick-up pattern sits perfectly centred within each block. You don’t really notice it – but you would if it was off! There's something about a balanced design that just feels right.
I also love the neutral colours. They don't compete with the pattern—they let it shine without saying a word. The colours and the symmetry work together to create a scarf that's interesting to look at, and easy to wear.
The pattern uses two pick-up sticks to create the design. One stays in the loom for the entire project, while the second is inserted as needed. Once you've woven the first repeat, the weaving settles into a comfortable rhythm. If you'd rather not reinsert the second pick-up stick throughout the project, I've also included instructions for replacing it with string heddles.
Woven with doubled Bamboo Cotton, the finished scarf has beautiful drape, is wonderfully soft against the skin, completely machine washable, and perfect for those times when wool is simply too warm or for sensitive skin.
