About The Rogue Weaver

I work at a fabulous little yarn shop nestled in the Gaspereau Valley in Nova Scotia called Gaspereau Valley Fibres. It is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon poking through all the beautiful yarns and fibres and feasting your eyes on the incredible array of colors. As a customer you can come in, be greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff and leave confident that you have exactly what you wanted for that sweater you’ve been dreaming about.. And mostly likely you’ll also take home a skein or two that you just had to have!

As staff, it’s a little more challenging! We feast our eyes, pet our favourite yarns everyday and try to take home a pay cheque at the end of the week. We are tempted on a daily basis to try new yarns, new accessories and of course new handcrafts. Enter weaving.

Two years ago I bought a spinning wheel. Spinning was something I have always wanted to do. It just seemed like the perfect hobby. Sit, treadle your feet (that counts as exercise doesn’t it?) and turn out beautiful yarn that you can then knit. At the same time I bought a rigid heddle loom. Mostly because I knew my spinning might not be knit worthy right away, but surely I could use it for weaving. I bought yarn for a first project and dreamed of a long, light, drapey wrap and instead produced a short, dense, stiff wrap? Table runner? Clearly I had a lot to learn. But learn I did.

Since starting I have created patterns, sold scarves, taught beginner and advanced weaving classes and been published in Little Looms Magazine. I love the creative process, the soothing feel of passing the shuttle back and forth, inspiring new weavers and learning from experienced weavers. I hope here you find something perfect for you…a cozy wrap for yourself or to give to a friend, the perfect pattern to encourage you to try something new or just an enjoyable moment as you read my blog.
