Pick-up Sticks 101 March 26
📍Zoom Class
📅 Date: March 26th
🕒 Time: 1:00-4:00 ADT
📍 Location: Zoom
🎟 Skill Level: Beginner-friendly
Rigid heddle looms are often called “simple” looms — but they are anything but simple.
In this foundational class, we’ll explore how pick-up sticks transform plain weave into textured, dimensional fabric. You’ll learn how pick-up sticks create additional sheds, introduce floats, and open the door to endless design possibilities.
This class focuses on understanding how pick-up sticks work.
Together we will:
Review how up and down-sheds function
Understand why only slot ends can be manipulated
Insert a pick-up stick correctly
Create and weave weft floats
Create and weave warp floats
Explore how float length, fibre choice, and sett affect the finished cloth
We’ll weave sample patterns to build confidence and clarity. This is a hands-on technique class designed to give you a solid foundation so you can use pick-up sticks comfortably in future projects.
💻 Zoom Class Includes Recording
All Zoom students receive access to the class recording for 30 days, so you can revisit the techniques and weave along again whenever it’s convenient.
🌿 Who Is This For?
This class is for you if:
You’ve never used a pick-up stick before
You’ve used one but didn’t fully understand what was happening
You want to move beyond plain weave
You enjoy understanding structure, not just memorizing steps
You’re comfortable warping and weaving plain weave independently
You do not need prior pick-up stick experience.
You should be comfortable:
Warping your loom
Winding on evenly
Weaving plain weave without assistance
If you can weave a basic project confidently, you’re ready for Pick-Up 101.
