My First Tea Towels

Class Details

πŸ—“οΈ Dates: Tuesday, July 7 & Thursday, July 9

πŸ• Time: 1:00–4:00 PM (ADT - Halifax)

πŸ’» Location: Live on Zoom

πŸŽ₯ Recording: A recording of the class will be available for 30 days after the final session, so you can revisit demonstrations and techniques whenever you need a refresher.

This live Zoom class is designed for weavers who want a calm, supportive introduction to weaving tea towels on a rigid heddle loom. If you bought a loom because you wanted to weave practical, beautiful clothβ€”but aren't sure where to beginβ€”this class will guide you through the process step by step.

Together, we'll build a strong foundation, focusing on understanding the why behind each step so you leave feeling confident, capable, and ready to continue weaving on your own. One of the advantages of learning on Zoom is that you'll be working on your own loom in your own space, making it easy to continue weaving after class using the same set-up and equipment.

This isn't a rushed class, and it isn't about doing things the "one right way." It's about understanding the process, building confidence, and discovering works for you. Day 1 we will focus on warping well. You’ll have time between the first and second class to finish warping. Day 2 will focus on weaving technique.

What You'll Learn

  • Setting up your rigid heddle loom for warping

  • Warping with two colours, including colour changes in the warp

  • Winding the warp while maintaining even tension

  • Tying on and spreading the warp

  • Weaving plain weave with consistent picks per inch

  • Making nearly invisible weft colour changes

  • Measuring as you weave

  • Removing your towels from the loom

  • Wet finishing and hemming for durable, everyday towels

You'll also receive clear written instructions, photos, and video resources so you can revisit the techniques after class and continue weaving with confidence.
