March Scarf Weaving Class

Colour & Weave with Two Heddles

📅 Class Dates & Details

🧶 Zoom Class
🗓 March 14
12:00–4:00 PM ADT
📍 Online via Zoom
🎥 Includes a 30-day replay

Colour and weave is a bit like looking at an optical illusion. It looks complicated at first, but—just like an optical illusion—it’s often much easier to do than you think.

This March Zoom class is a skills-based weaving class‍ ‍that will focus on using two heddles, to weave colour and weave structures.

We’ll use Log Cabin and Houndstooth as our colour-and-weave framework, but the real focus is on understanding what’s going on so you’re not just following a pattern and hoping for the best. I’ll talk through why things work, what to watch for, and how to make decisions when something doesn’t look quite right.

How the Class Is Set Up

The class runs in two main parts.

We’ll start with threading, working at your loom together. This is where most of the teaching happens. We’ll look closely at how the two heddles work together, how colour order affects the cloth, and what to watch for as you’re threading.

In the second part of the class, I’ll do most of the talking and demonstrating while you listen, watch, and weave if you like!

We’ll cover:

  • fixing threading errors after you have started weaving

  • working with two heddles

  • boat shuttles vs stick shuttles

  • managing two shuttles

  • fringe options, including whether to twist it or not

We’ll also talk about wet finishing and why it matters.

The full class runs for about three hours, followed by an optional open hour when I will be available to help with any threading issues.

You may not do much weaving during the class, and that’s completely expected. The goal is that by the end, you understand the full process and know how to finish the threading and weaving on your own.

All Zoom students will receive a 30-day replay, so you can revisit the threading, weaving, and finishing instruction as you work at your own pace.

Is This Class for You?

This class is a good fit if you:

  • Are comfortable warping a rigid heddle loom

  • Have experience working with two heddles (or have taken the January or February classes)

  • Want a thoughtful, skill-building approach to colour and weave

You’ll leave the class with a strong technical foundation, clear next steps, and the confidence to apply these techniques to future projects—even when things don’t look quite right at first.
