Jewel Scarf — Two-Day Weaving Class
🗓⏰ Dates and Times:
Tuesday, February 10th, 2:00 - 4:00 PM AST
and
Tuesday, February 17th, 2:00 - 5:00 PM AST
📍 Location: Zoom
This two-day class is based on the Jewel Scarf pattern and is designed for weavers who want to build confidence working with two heddles, colour, and structure on a rigid heddle loom.
The Jewel Scarf combines a planned with a more intuitive approach to the weft, creating a rich, colourful fabric with a sweet little zig-zag. The class focuses on understanding how and why the structure works, so you can apply these skills to future projects.
All students will receive the Jewel Scarf pattern. During the class, you may choose to work on the full scarf or on a smaller practice project using yarn of your choice. The smaller option allows you to learn and practise the techniques at a manageable scale before committing to finer or more precious yarns. Both options are fully supported.
Experience Level
You do not need to have used two heddles before.
This class is suitable for weavers who are:
Confident warping a rigid heddle loom using a single heddle
Comfortable winding on and threading their loom independently
Ready to learn two-heddle threading and weaving as part of the class
If you can successfully warp and thread your loom using one heddle, you have the skills needed for this class.
Class Structure
Day 1 (2 hours): Warp Review & Two-Heddle Threading
The first session focuses on preparing your loom and learning how to thread for two heddles. We’ll review common warping issues, correct problems that can interfere with threading, and walk through the two-heddle threading process step by step. The priority of this session is understanding the threading.
Day 2: (3 hours) Weaving, Colour & the Weft
The second session focuses on weaving and design decisions. We’ll cover weaving with two heddles, managing sheds and tension, making clean colour changes, and understanding how the intuitive weft approach works in the Jewel Scarf. You’ll learn how to read the cloth as it grows rather than following a strict pick-by-pick colour sequence.
What You’ll Gain
By the end of the class, you’ll have:
The Jewel Scarf pattern
Confidence threading and weaving with two heddles
Practical strategies for troubleshooting warping and threading issues
A deeper understanding of colour, structure, and weft choices
Skills you can carry into future two-heddle projects
