Beginner Inkle Weaving - In Person

CA$65.00

📅 Date: Saturday, September 5, 2026

🕚 Time: 11:00 AM–4:00 PM

📍 Location: In the Studio - Halifax, NS

🧶 Class Format: In-Person

Nobody needs an inkle band—until suddenly you do.

A broken shoelace, a tea towel loop, a drawstring bag, a key fob, a luggage tag... once you know how to weave inkle bands, you'll start finding uses for them everywhere. They're quick to weave, incredibly useful, and just plain fun. Fair warning though—the more you weave, the more ideas you'll have for the next one.

If you've had an inkle loom tucked away waiting for the right time to learn, this class is for you.

Designed for complete beginners, we'll cover everything from getting to know your loom to warping, weaving, and finishing your first band. Along the way we'll talk about tension, neat edges, fixing common mistakes, and the little tips and tricks that make weaving easier.

Because we'll have a full day together, we'll also have time to explore a few extra techniques. In addition to weaving flat bands, you'll learn how to weave tubular bands, and we'll spend some time looking through The Inkle Pattern Directory. We'll talk about how to read inkle patterns, how colour placement affects the finished band, and how to begin planning your own colour arrangements. We won't weave these patterns during class, but you'll leave knowing how to start exploring them on your own.

If you've taken one of my rigid heddle classes, you'll find a familiar teaching style here. We'll take things one step at a time, talk about why things work (not just how), and make sure you leave understanding the process—not just following instructions. My goal is to help you feel confident enough to continue weaving on your own once the class is over.

For this class we'll use leftover sock yarn for the warp and 8/2 or 8/4 cotton for the weft.
